Purefoods Vida Hotdog - Review

I got married last 2010, and since then had to handle grocery shopping and other expenses. It was a breeze then since I still have work and the amount of groceries is not an issue. However, I had to change the way I do my grocery shopping when my son was born.  We had to incorporate his expenses and it's not cheap.  So I set my sight on finding cheaper products in the supermarket.

I first discovered Vida bacon and since it was from Purefoods, the maker of yummy tender juicy hotdog, I was ok with trying it.  I liked it and the plus side is that it is actually cheap.  So I have been buying the Vida brand of bacon, until I discovered that they now have a regular hotdog so I tried it as well.  It was not what I expected.  It was really cheap but didn't taste good.  You would know that it was full of flour coz the consistency was the same as that of the sidewalk kikiam.  I can't find the proper way to prepare it.  Either steamed or fried it doesn't turn out better tasting.  I even tried to sauté it in lots of onions and garlic, it was really sad.

I'm disappointed.  I just can't imagine why Purefoods would let this product go out to the market.  Although it won't actually taint the tender juicy hotdog image, it is somewhat a turn off to the Vida label.  Too bad it could have fitted well into my budget.  =)

  2. Same! We just bought one yesterday since our usual brand, Bossing Hotdog, is out of stock. It's the saddest hotdog that we've ever tasted. All we can do is laugh while eating it. I came upon your blog because I searched for the proper way of cooking it, thinking that we might be doing it all wrong.

  3. Hahaha this blog came to life because of my review of Vida hotdog! I feel you Neil! I just hoped you didn't go through this kind of disappointment, specially towards food. I need to buy and write an update. Have a great day!

  4. Exact same experience with everyone here. The sad part is I bought the 1kg pack because I thought their bacon is actually good. Like Neil above, I stumbled upon your blog trying to search for ways to cook it right. Btw, the one I got was with the blue packaging that says “sakto pang ihaw” on the bottom left. I guess I have to try that too

  5. Another victim here. It was undescribable. Texture is bad, taste is bad. I don't think my dog would even want to eat it

  8. Bumili din ako 1kg.. Akala ko dahil sa used cooking oil so ngfry ulit ako sa bagong mantika but still the same. Sabi ko parang kalamay.. Nakakainis sayang ang pera gawang purefoods kaya kampante kami na okay siya kahit mura.. Try ko nalang ipakain sa dogs...

  9. Sigh*** The worst hotdog ever. Hindi ko mailuto ng tama. Kahit anong gawin ko epic failed, para syang hilaw na ewan. Parang ganito yung hotdogs na sineserve ng mga mag fifishball na naka kariton. Sama ng lasa. Curse this hotdog. 1KG pa naman binili ko.

  11. Contrary to what was stated, I tasted this when I was a kid, and I am actually craving it as a grown up. Lol kinda weird but I am looking to buy this again but I think it's already phased out. Probably miss the sentiment that comes with it, yes this tasted like extender, and not that tasty, just pamapak and lasa ng nilalako kasama ng mga fishbol pero hindi nakakasawa dahil nga hndi ganon kalasa pero swak parin pangkanto. ^~^
